Fun and functional
Bought for my husband’s birthday. He loves it, and makes new batches of infused alcohols every few weeks. It looks nice on our bar cart, too.

This well made infuser is fun to use and is attractive enough to have out on your bar or table at your next dinner party. The system comes with ideas to make syrups, oils and beverages. For this review, I chose to make an infused vodka.To use, unscrew one side of the devices and add your ingredients. Then reinstall the glass cover, use a small funnel to add the vodka and wait about a week for the magic to occur. The vodka eventually took on the color of the strawberries, with a hint of blueberry. The lime and mango did not seem to impact the color at all. As you can see, it’s attractive enough to leave out for you guests to marvel at.After waiting a week, I poured some vodka out to taste. The flavor was rich and tasty although next time, I’ll probably leave out the wine. I poured the remaining vodka into a glass container to save for later.The system comes with several straining filters that can be used with smaller ingredients such as what you might use to infuse an oil or vinegar. This was not needed with the large fruit slices. I kept the infused fruit which I hope to use for a syrup or something if I can work out a recipe.A few notes.- Be careful assembling the unit to make sure all the gaskets are in place to protect the glass and ensure that there are no leaks. And tighten the central screw for the same reason.- The total liquid capacity of the container is 2.5 cups. The quantity of the final infusion that you wind up with will depend on how many ingredients get put in to start and how much liquid they absorb. In my case, the fruit took up a lot of space and absorbed a lot of alcohol, so I wound up with about little over one cup of final infused vodka. So your mileage may vary as they say.If I had one complaint it would be that the booklet or website should have more recipes. This is an unusual and unique device and it’s not intuitively obvious all the ways this could be used to create unique infusions and wow your guests. One caution also is that the silicone gasket that seals the screw that holds the glass seems to have taken some damage when I got this disassembled after I was done. Hopefully this will not limit its functionality or limit its lifetime. I am really looking forward to my next dinner party and showing off this unique item to my friends. The only question remaining is what to make next…..

I’ve seen this style of glassware at some very high end cocktail establishments for serving cocktails and it is always an amazing presentation. For the wow factor it is perfect, and you can really change the feel of the cocktail based off of what you put in the infusion glass. The clean up is pretty easy and I was worried about how watertight it would be, but so far I have had no issues.The prices is a bit high for novelty, but if you are a high end cocktail bar, then this can make a good cocktail much more elevated.

A Handsome Infuser, But…
This is a very nice, premium infuser that is made with quality materials and works well for what it is. But what works against it is its compact size. I knew this infuser wasn’t going to be overly large, but once I unpacked it I was honestly surprised at just how small it is. Once you factor in the space that is occupied by whatever is used for infusing flavor, there’s only enough capacity remaining for 1-3 servings depending on what it is you’re infusing. This makes the infuser itself somewhat impractical…an unfortunate case of form over function.

Great For Various Things
This infuser can be used for many things, from oils to cocktails and more. It makes for a great display or presentation. The glass is thick. It’s easy to assemble and clean. It’s reusable and should last a long time. This will make a nice gift. It is on the more expensive side, but it will be something useful. I enjoy mine!

An Infuser’s Dream
The porthole is a fantastic device. This can be used to make infused waters, gin, etc. and it looks great while it does it. The craftsmanship on this is apparent, it’s very much a “show piece” as much as functional infusion device — half the fun is seeing your concoctions before serving! Cleanup is a bit of a hassle, but as you’re likely doing only weekly infusions, it’s not too much to deal with.

Lovely product, looks wonderful when in use
The Porthole infuser is a signature of the Aviary Cocktail Bar in Chicago. While this product is not the original brand, it is high quality version of that product. This product is very well made. The glass is thick and high quality and the construction is solid, with gaskets to ensure a solid seal. This comes with three different sized filters and extra screws. When filled with ingredients and the liquid to be infused, this is a beautiful display piece. It breaks down easily after use and the glass and metal components can be dishwashed. I’ve mostly used this to infuse liquors, but this can be used for teas, syrups, dressings and vinegars as well. This is a great product.
