Great starter set, easy to use, creates great curl give me good height at the roots.
I have been looking at these on and off for years thinking they could not possibly give me the curl I want in my type 1A hair, and they would be too hard to use or would not stay in my hair long enough to curl it. I was wrong and wrong! It takes some practice to develop your skills and get the level of curl you want. By my 3rd time I have a routine and the rolling time down to 30 minutes. I think I can get it down to 20 minutes. If you like big curls and have more coarse hair you can roll larger sections on the larger size rods and your rolling time would be maybe 10 or 15 minutes. My goals:Curl that lasts for days in my home climate which is low humidity.Curl that at least lasts the day and evening when I travel to humid climates, which is often.I grew up in a humid climate and have always thought my hair just won’t hold any curl. It definitely will hold curl–for days if I’m in a dryer climate. Even in humid climate I just need the right recipe of products and the right type of curl. I’ve tried several of the no heat options that you sleep in. They work OK but if they come loose while sleeping it ruins the look I’m trying to achieve so I’ve kept looking and have finally tried flexi rods. These are not comfortable for sleeping–not specific to this brand but any flexi rod is going to be a big no for overnight use. Too bulky and some will get pulled out and ruin your hairdo. However, I’ve developed a process that only requires a short interval of blow dryer heat and gives me beautiful lasting curls. The whole thing takes about an hour, but half of that time is just walking around the house with these rods in my hair so it’s actually the greatest and longest lasting hairdo for the least time invested that I’ve ever found, and using a very tame hot air for only a few minutes. This great little set has 7 different sizes of flexi rods, which is why I say it’s a great starter set and at a great price. There might be some who could use all of the sizes in this package and get the look they desire. For me this set helped me find the ideal rod size for most of my head of hair and gives me the ability to utilize a few of another size for areas where I need that like new growth around my face and neck. I personally don’t need to use the blue or the pink in this set because they’re too fat for my hair type and desired level of curl but those would be great for someone who wants big waves and/or has a different hair type. I have to start out on day 1 with tighter curl than I expect to have on days two and three (and sometimes day 4!) because my hair is very straight and very fine. I have a lot of it and it is about bra strap length when straight with some long loose layers.I’ve developed a recipe and process that works great for me. You always want to start with clean hair that is fully detangled and about 85% dry. After I wash and condition in the shower, I comb through and then use a good leave-in conditioner on the bottom 1/3 of the length to protect the ends and keep that very vulnerable part of my hair healthy. Then I use my favorite mousse on my whole head of hair including the roots and blow dry my hair, concentrating on making sure my roots are dry and leaving the length about 85% dry–to me that’s slightly damp to the touch but it looks dry if you don’t touch it.The only other product I use is Kenra 19 heat protectant spray. I spray it on each strand, smooth it will a comb, and then roll just like if I was using my curling wand. This is an excellent heat protector but also adds hold and offers really good humidity resistance. When I’m traveling to a humid climate I switch to Kenra Hot Spray 20 which is basically the same product with stronger hold. Heat protectant is not the same as a leave-in conditioner. Those should never be combo products. Leave-in conditioner only goes on wet hair and does nothing to protect from humidity or hot tools. Heat protectant should be applied to dry or mostly dry hair or it won’t protect your hair from heat damage. Its role is to create a barrier. Kenra is GREAT for this and the reason I use it in this process is two-fold. It provides hold as I mentioned. Also, if I use my curling want to touch up a curl or to add back a few strategic curls on day 2, Kenra is still there doing the job. AND it doesn’t make my hair sticky, or leave build up on my curling rods or my heat tools or my bathroom floor. Truly great stuff and really extends my curl for days.I have found that the yellow and orange rods from this set are the best size for most of my hair. However, there are not enough of those do my whole head. So I took one with me and found a very similar size in a pack of 12 at TJX. Many places have those. I use a few of the smaller red and purple rods from this set around my face and neck where the hair is even more fine than the rest of my hair and/or shorter. The bigger the rod and the bigger the section of hair you wrap around it, the looser the curl will be. Small sections of hair and smaller rods create tighter curls. I need tighter curls because they will “fall” and become looser curls that look beautiful and evolve over the course of days. On days 2, 3 and sometimes four I spend no more than 5 minutes on my hair.I start by rolling the “mohawk” section of my hair first. That is a section about 2.5 to 3 inches wide from front to crown. I do this because I have a perfect natural center part in my hair and I don’t like the way my hair looks parted down the middle. By creating a section of about an inch and half of the hair directly to either side of my center part and then dividing it horizontally into three sections that I roll away from my face, I wind up with no center part. Instead I can choose to wear it parted on the left or the right or just kind of tousled and it looks good. Once I put those three rods in the center top front of my hair I can continue that row down the center back of my head, leaving a big dividing line between the left side and right side of my hair. I find this helps me roll the rest of my hair more easily. After my whole head is rolled a use the dryer bonnet that I bought on Amazon for about $15. I only wear it for about 10 minutes with dryer on low heat. It really helps if you use a decent quality blow dryer that utilizes ions and/or nano technology to dry your hair. They dry your hair faster with less heat. After about 10 minutes I take the bonnet off and let my hair cool completely before I take the rods out. Usually about a half hour. During that time I do my makeup, eat, get dressed, whatever. if you don’t want to use the bonnet you can just use the air flow concentrator nozzle on your blowdryer and go around your whole head being sure you dry each rod thoroughly. I would be about the same amount of time. Depending on your hair type and texture and how big your sections, you could try high heat/low speed. Keep in mind that bigger sections of hair will take longer or need more heat to dry thoroughly so adjust accordingly. Then let your hair cool completely as I described. The longer they can stay in, the better your curl. When you take them out you need unroll each rod just the opposite motion of when you rolled it. Don’t pull them out. The most important reason is because each rod, no matter what rods you buy, has a plastic cap on each end that anchors and secures the wire inside the rod that makes it bendable. It isn’t a design flaw; it’s the design. Otherwise you couldn’t bend the rod around your curl. It would just bounce back and unroll. Hair can get caught between the end of the rod and the little cap when you’re rolling and if you just pull the rods out you’ll break and damage your hair, or pull it out by the root. As you unroll each rod you’ll be able to feel if there are hairs caught and all you have to do is pinch the flexi rod at the end which will pull the rubber away from the cap and release the hairs that got caught. When you’re rolling, don’t start the rod at the end of your hair. How far up from the end you start it depends on the layers in your hair. The goal is to get the ends of your hair neatly wrapped around the rod before you try to roll the rest of the way up. If you don’t do this you’ll be fighting your ends constantly and it will make this take a long time. There are good videos out there to show you what this looks like. The best way is to put the rod up against the section about 2 or so inches from the end. If you start higher up your curl pattern will be way off and you’ll have a big weird bend in the middle of each curl instead of a bouncy twirl from root to end. Once you get the end wrapped around, roll the rod the rest of the way to your scalp trying not to overlap your hair on itself. The entire length of your hair should sit directly on the rod. You don’t want to roll all of your hair around the center of the rod like you would do with a roller. Your rods should be long enough to accommodate the length of your hair without overlapping the hair as you wind it around. You should roll your hair away from your face. Roll all the way to the root making it comfortably tight. Bend the ends of the rod around the front of the curl. You’re rolling the hair away from your face and bending the rod ends toward your face. This keeps the rod from unrolling and leaving the top couple of inches of your hair straight and flat. It’s one of the things I love about this method. I get more height and texture in the top of my hair than anything else I’ve ever used because I can curl it really close to my scalp and bend the rod to hold it up there nice and tight. When I first take it down it’s pretty curly. I don’t comb or brush my hair on the first day. After I take the rods out I use just my fingers. I pull my curls apart and use the rat tail end of my comb to pick out any section marks up at the root but I do not comb or brush. That’s my process for getting curl to last for days. You’ll find what creates the look you like. The photos show my hair fully rolled, what it looks like when I finish taking out the rods, what it looks like after I pull my curls apart and use my fingers to get my starting style, then the front and back of my hair at the end of day 1 when I get home from work. I use about 26 rods total on about 1 to 1.5 inch wide sections of hair. The pink rods you see are not the pink from this set. They are the ones I bought to match the size of the yellow and orange rods in this set. I sleep with my hair in a twisted bun to preserve my curls overnight and I shower in a 3 layer cap with my hair still in the bun to keep moisture from getting to my hair. I bought that cap on Amazon for a great price and I love it. 1 and 2 layer caps don’t work. This process turns my curls into big bouncy waves after the first day.Overall I highly recommend this set of rods. Great value, they seem like they’re going to be durable, the color doesn’t bleed into my hair, they’re easy to pack for travel. My mid back length hair fits around these rods with room to bend the ends. The pink ones I bought separately are longer which is fine but wasn’t a requirement for me.

Best soft rollers in the market!
I love these rollers. You have 7 different sizes to use based on how soft or tight you want your curls. They are very easy to place in your hair, need no more than the roll and a twist in the opposite direction. It takes no more than 15 minutes to set on dry hair. You can leave them longer or overnight for a nice styled hair in the morning! Very soft and comfortable to sleep on.

    Easy to use
I’ve only used the rollers once. They were easy to use. I just need to refine my technique a bit, but so far I love them. I bought them so I could curl my hair without heat for a musical I’m going to see this month. I used Halloween as a test run. The curls towards the front of my face stayed all day with some hair spray. The ones at the back of my head started to flatten out a bit but also stayed. I do believe that was user error though.

    Doesn’t hold hair in place
Very difficult to wrap hair written that. My hair is shoulder length abd shoulder have been easy to wrap. Also they do not bend well so can’t get to hold in place

    Works great
These work well for me. They were easy to roll up and bend to fix in place. There a bunch of them in lots of sizes. I’ll probably only ever use the largest as I’m looking more for air dried waves in my collarbone length hair than tight curls. Pay attention to the size measurements given or you might be surprised at how slim most of these are. These are lightweight, easy to use, not annoying to have in during the time it takes my hair to dry. I’d even consider sleeping in these if needed. For the price these are great for my need and fun to experiment with for different styles.
